Borowicz Legislation Would Shut Down Taxpayer-Funded Gender Reassignment for Prison Inmates
September 24, 2019
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Stephanie Borowicz (R-Centre/Clinton) issued the following statement regarding her co-sponsor memo seeking support for the Inmate Sex Change Prevention Act, which would prohibit the Department of Corrections from using taxpayer dollars to fund an inmate’s gender-confirmation surgery or the administration of hormone therapy.
“Pennsylvania taxpayers—whether they know it or not—are being forced to shell out no less than $60,000 per year to fund costly sex change procedures for any inmate diagnosed with ‘gender dysphoria.’
“Once fully informed, I have no doubt that the majority of hard-working Pennsylvania taxpayers, who would be protected by my legislation, will also agree that they do not want any taxes taken from their paychecks to cover the expense of gender-reassignment surgery or hormone therapy for prison inmates.”
